Safer Internet Day (SID) is being held on the 7th February 2012.

This year’s topic looks at the reach of the online world across all generations and cultures and encourages families to work together to stay safe online.

Safer Internet Day is organised by the Insafe network (www.saferinternet.org) each February to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile internet, especially amongst children and young people across the world. Each year hundreds of events are organised to raise awareness about online safety issues.

Over the years, Safer Internet Day has become a landmark event in the online safety calendar. Starting as an initiative of the EU SafeBorders project in 2004 and taken up by the Insafe network as one of its earliest actions in 2005, Safer Internet Day has grown beyond its traditional geographic zone and is now celebrated in more than 70 countries worldwide, and across 6 of the world’s 7 continents.
