MyPlace Bristol


Young people want "Somewhere affordable for everyone to go that's fun, stylish, not tacky, offering good activities including arts and sport".
Located in the old Fire Station in the Bridewell Island site, the MyPlace Bristol partnership has secured £5m to deliver a world-class, 40,000 sq ft freehold facility for all young people in Bristol, accessible by public transport, in a safe, neutral location, that links young people to the services and activities they need to progress. It will be open at times when young people need it, especially at weekends and evenings.
 
What will be in the building?
 
On the ground floor:
  • Cafe with kitchen run by young people
  • Main performance space with technical infrastructure and flexible seating for 450.
  • Information space
  • Toilets with baby changing area
  • Creche area
  • Internet cafe
  • Retail pods  
  • Cycle and skateboard workshop

Reception area with access to other floors:

First Floor:

  • Fitness suite
  • Health and Beauty studio
  • Arts workshop
  • Radio studio
  • Music studio and editing suites

Third Floor:

  • Offices for partner organisations

 

Second floor:

  • Health Clinic
  • Fully equipped dance studio
  • Activity, training and meeting rooms
  • Offices for partner organisation
  • Sensory/chill out room
  • Small private rooms to provide confidential meeting space for one to one IAG and counselling

The design will enable the facility to be operated in sections, for operational, security and economic reasons. The facility will be fully furnished and equipped to the highest standards.
 
Operation and Users
MyPlace will operate seven days a week from 9am - 10pm providing:

Consultation
The DCSF have appointed The Sorrell Foundation, who have been heading up the Joinedupdesign for building Schools, to work alongside 15 of the 41 successful MyPlace projects nationally and MyPlace Bristol was selected. A group of 12 young people - the Young Clients - are now working alongside the Sorrell Foundation linking in with top architects and designers to create final designs that will be presented to stakeholders and partners on 10th September.
 
Timescale - Commence building - May 2010, completion summer 2011
